FAQ

I get asked a lot of questions about the music I record and it’s usually from people who've downloaded from itunes and amazon etc so here is a simple Q&A for you.

Questions posed by my son from questions arising from iTunes etc:-

Why does your music vary so much , are you a singer or songwriter?

Both, but I like to play lots of varying types of music and get bored easily. I like to try my hand at different stuff and muck about, my past efforts have included some pretty wild and varied tracks. I do rock out but tend to do that as a pub / gig thing, not for the albums.

Why is your newest album called Downtime?

Most of that album was recorded during a period of redundancy and I wasnt in a good mood! (haha)

I work with you / went to school with you / know you from somewhere etc and never knew you played anything/ was musical?

You do now. I just dont really tell anyone - it's just a hobby - no... really... it is.

So when did you start playing guitar/ keyboards?

Guitar when I was a kid about 7, badly and with one very worn out finger. My dad bought my first electric when I was 14, it was a Les Paul copy and it was great to hold but terrible to play, real finger shredder. Keyboards? Well, I had a farfisa thing when I was a kid, then we got a piano at home from age 12, which I taught my self to play Tubular Bells on and it went from there. I ran the usual gamut of childhood phases of being into different things but music always caught my undivided attention. Bass came in 1991 and is my weakest instrument, vocals came in about 2006 properly.

You can't read or write music, so how the hell do you make an album then?

Good question and also the hardest to answer!!, Nope I can't read or write a note, never could. It makes absolutely no bloody sense to me whatsoever. Remember when you were a kid and you were taught fractions? Well music makes as much sense to me as they did when I was 10 which means none. I play ‘by ear’ and don't actually 'write' songs per se, it's more a type of
